You Write Where?!?  By Rebecca Zanetti

Thank you for having me here at Literal Hotties today!  Do you ever wonder where authors write?  Before I started writing, I kind of pictured my favorite authors writing poolside at tropical resorts with umbrella decorated drinks next to them as sexy pool guys brought them chocolate covered strawberries.

Sounds good.

In reality, we write wherever we can.  At this moment, I’m sitting on a spotless white couch in a music room while my daughter takes her piano lesson.  Her teacher is a retired music teacher whose house always smells like sugar cookies.  They’re working on a lovely song I’ve never heard before, although there’s some fun clapping involved somehow.  I truly haven’t figured out when to clap.  

That’s okay, because I’m writing.

I also write at football, basketball, softball, and volleyball practices.  Not during games, because I love watching the kids and my husband play.  But practices are a great place to put on the headphones and just type away.  My home office is wonderful to write in, but sometimes I have to just change environments.  Of course, right now we’re moving houses, and I can’t find anything.

During the summer I often write at the lake, and during the winter, I’ve written in the ski lodge.  For the record, it’s impossible to write on a snowmobile.

Last year I spent plenty of time writing on airplanes and in hotel rooms because I attended so many conferences and book signings.  Plenty of RISING ASSETS was written in the south – both Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.  That’s a bit funny because Rising Assets takes place in Montana – a place close to my home and one I visited right after turning in the book.

I love Montana.  Big spaces, large mountains, real cowboys.  There’s nothing like a man who knows how to stride in cowboy boots and control a wild animal that hugely outweighs him.  Also, not sure if you knew this, but cowboys can dance.  Smooth and sexy…and they know how to lead.

In Rising Assets, hero Colton Freeze is a cowboy, a financial genius, and an organizer who has his life planned out perfectly.  Heroine Melanie Jacoby is a free-spirited tomboy whose life has taken a definite left turn.  They’ve been best friends for years until one explosive, fire-hot kiss throws them into chaos…because being best friends with benefits was never the plan.

I hope you enjoy Colton and Melanie’s red-hot romance, which is on a release sale of less than a dollar for a very short time.  Thanks again for having me over to play today!

I started writing Highland Shift—the first book in the Highland Destiny series—about five years ago. From the first word of the first book, I knew it would be a four-book series, and I knew exactly how I wanted it to end. Of course, there was a lot of writing to get there—the series is over 400,000 words!

Each book in the series focuses primarily on one couple, but characters for the next book are introduced and characters from the previous books play important roles. Keeping everyone straight was an intricate dance! By the time we get to Highland Destiny, you will have hopefully come to know and love everyone.  

In Highland Shift, the main characters, Elena and Faolan (pronounced FULL-en) spend a lot of time dancing around their attraction for each other. Especially while Faolan tries to keep Elena alive and she tries to figure out his secret…and convince him to have sex with her. Can she convince him? Well, she gives it a damn good try in this scene from Highland Shift.

To set the scene in this excerpt up—they have had a major disagreement, but set aside their difference for an evening with friends. Caught up in the fun, Elena might have had a wee bit much to drink. As soon as they’re alone, she is struck by a sudden attack of the giggles, which is definitely not in character. The situation becomes funnier still, when Faolan unexpectedly joins in the laughter.

I have many favorite tropes but this go around I thought I would talk about one of my favorite reading devices, the audiobook!!!

I hate the gym, it is an evil place that holds no lure for me. But my doctor says I have to workout. Well that, and I refuse to go up another jean size! Yeah, I wish I were the size I was when I first thought I was fat. That is now the goal weight. How times have changed.

Anyway, I routinely complained that I do not get endorphins from exercise, mine come from reading.  Oh hey, let's combine the thing I loathe with one that I love. Eureka, audiobooks are the perfect solution to my dilemma.

After successfully using audio as a bait for exercise, I tried it with cleaning, long drives and mindless work on my computer!! Ah, love!! I even managed to convince the teens I work with to listen while playing video games!! What a way to make that time more productive!!

There are some who argue this is not really reading, but there are many studies out there that prove audiobooks are great for improving vocabulary, reading comprehension and concepts. It is also a way to get around those pesky classics teens find dull. 

With a great narrator a story will come to life. Audiobooks are on the rise and so many out there are amazing listens. I have a nice little list of narrators that I fangirl over as much as the authors they read!! There are even more smexy books popping up on Audible and publisher sites.
