Guest Post & Giveaway- Mary Abshire's IMMORTAL REVENGE

I don’t know much about weapons other than the basics. I'm a simple person and like to keep things simple. When I was writing my urban fantasy novel, Immortal Revenge, I planned to have my protagonist, Katie Dillinger, involved in fighting scenes. Therefore, she needed to be skilled using weapons. Various weapons. So what’s a writer like me who knows little about the matter supposed to do? Answer…research.
As my story was developing, I wanted to create a unique weapon to use against vampires. Guns, specifically bullets, wouldn't kill someone immortal. But what if the bullet was special? What could hurt a vampire? The first thought in my mind was acid. But one typically doesn't carry liquid acid with them. Plus, the time it would take to throw it would be too long. Vampires are fast. I did more thinking and… What if acid was in a powder form? What if it was in the tip of a bullet? Could the bullet penetrate flesh, the tip break off, and release acid into the body’s system? I looked on line, researching bullets. Then I contacted a couple of people I knew who worked in law enforcement. And the verdict? My idea could work. So I created a bullet laced with acid in the tip. Imagine when the acid is released in a vampire. Not good. It won’t destroy, but it certainly causes harm and weakens a vamp. Not bad, eh? I thought my idea was original. I hadn't read any stories with such a weapon.
As for blades, there are so many to select from. All I had to do was look on Google. I don’t know about specific types of swords and really, one that is strong enough to whack off a head is good enough. The sword doesn't have to be special. Neither do the daggers or ring knives. My goal was to show Katie knew how to use them, any kind of weapon with a blade. Will I create something different? I’m not sure I can in the blade department, but I’ll give it a try. Heck, I may have to visit a shop in the future and talk to someone about blades. In my opinion, just having a variety of different sized blades that can sever arteries or limbs seemed good enough for me. What’s a fight scene against a vampire without some type of weapon, right?
What’s next? I was working out at my gym and watching the news on Syria when an idea came to me. I won’t say what it is because I have to work out the details and do more research. Fighting vampires is difficult and humans have to find different ways to beat them besides chopping off their heads and burning them. (Yes, I am sane in real life.)
If you like action, mystery and suspense I invite you to check out Immortal Revenge. Oh, and there is some humor in it too.
